Being passionate about sports is commendable, but one has to travel the extra mile to pass it on.

There are children in every locality of the country that may never get a chance in their lives to go to school. Sports training would be a distant dream for such kids.

I make it a point that wherever I live, I identify the underprivileged kids of the locality and give them basic sports training. It all started in Muzaffarpur, where I had gone to visit my grandparents during graduation days. My grandfather was the Mukhiya there and with my maternal uncle's help, I got a patch of land cleared to form a playground. I invited all the kids of the locality for sports training and made it into a 3-day event. But, I faced an unprecedented problem. Parents from the more well-off families barred their wards from coming in to play. They had issues with the kids from the lower class of the society playing with their kids. But sport knows no boundaries. By the third day, all the kids had come in to play together, leaving behind their prejudices.

Later, while I was living in Noida, I called kids from nearby villages to play with us every Sunday under the program ‘Hum Khelen Sab Khelen’. I also conducted a monthly talent identification drive in the locality under the title ‘Humein Khelne Do’.

I have recently moved to Bangalore and am planning to start a similar sports training program for the children of metro construction workers.
